The week that was

Without going into specifics: last week was a less than glorious week for me. At the moment I'm recovering from surgery and on the mend (so no worries). I'm residing on the couch with my laptop, books (I'm reading Coraline and other stories by Neil Gaiman now and loving it!), my Nintendo DS and my Ipod. I'm also trying to catch up with my embroidery floss organisation. I have printed out lists with colour numbers and names from DMC and Anchor to help me with that. Any tips or comments on how you organise your floss stash are very welcome! As are comments to cheer me up a bit ;)

Thanks for all the sweet comments on my new pattern Forty Winks Fox.  It's one of my personal favourites among my own patterns thus far!

  3. well, this is not quite so neat but I put all my colors in baggies. all greens together, light in one bag and dark in another( these are small baggies). reds and pinks in another , yellow another ,orange another , black and white and dark brown another( not so many whites and blacks they work well together because they show each other off) etc:etc: I stopped using the little cards because it took so long for me to wrap them and I really wanted to embroider. then I have a carry all for all. not as neat as yours but I can pick up a bag and see all like colors and then choose.. I just keep them in their original wrapping and pull a piece off! then I have one bag for left overs all mixed together...again not as neat but it does work..

  4. Glad you are on the mend, sounds like you're all set up (electronically). :)

I have NO organization, I just keep separate the floss for whatever project I'm working on, the reat of my life is too organized, I don't want to have to think that much about embroidery!

  5. i like to organize by color - i got a list of DMC floss that is organized by color, but it's hard to re-sort floss after you've taken some out because DMC jumps all over the place with their color numbers. I took my list and numbered them in order so it's easier to sort by color. One side of my bobbin has the DMC label and the other is my horrible hand writing. :)

  6. hope you feel better soon! sounds like you have some nice items to keep you company on the couch :)

as for me, i have my floss in two plastic DMC storage boxes. I ♥ the cardboard bobbins, so all my floss is wound on those. On the front of the bobbin I write the DMC # and on the back I write out the full name of the color. My floss is organized by color, like I'll group blues together from dark to light, etc....

  7. Hey Nicole. I'm sorry to hear you're stuck on the couch ... actually I'm jealous as hell! Not for the surgery bit though so I hope you are on the mend quickly! Being new to the world of embroidery (in fact you may recognise a pattern on my blog at the moment!) I bought a fairly new DMC sorting system where the floss gets stored on a little rod (which keeps it long and pretty much in it's original state and then you just slip the little code wrapper onto a special bit at the side. The rods then get stored in fold out plastic sleeve type things and popped into an A4 folder. Easy peasy and so delicious to look at.

I might pop a photo on my flickr to illustrate it better than my clumsy words! Happy couch time x

  8. Sorry to hear about the surgery, but glad you're on the mend.

I use the clear plastic floss organizers and have the floss organized by color, per the DMC chart. When I'm done with a project, I go ahead and file the floss cards back into the containers -- not especially fun, but I really appreciate having done it when I start the next project.

What DS games are you playing? I finally decided to trade in my DS Lite last week, after it sat unused for a year or more. That said, I was drooling over my niece's new DSi XL -- the screens on that thing are AWESOME!! If I find some DS games I really, really want to play I'll probably put a DSi XL on my birthday or Christmas wish list ;-).

  9. Thank you all for your sweet comments, still on the mend but have picked up my embroidery hoop again so maybe some good will come from spending a few days on the couch.
@ Glenda I'm primarily playing the prof. Layton game on my DS. I have completed the first a long time ago and am now playing the second one. I'm terribly slow though and I must admit that I hadn't touched my DS in about 6 months before this week!

  10. We played the Prof. Layton games too :). Pokemon and Zelda are the other games I liked on the DS.
