Politics, Peeps and things

It has been quiet on the blog this week. Partly because I am still not all that well and this week my laptop decided it didn't feel too well either and refused to start up. I'm now using our 'old' computer which is incredibly slow. So all that is slowing me down a bit. The good thing about my broken laptop is that in the evening (when it's too dark to stitch) I read quite a bit. I am now reading Neil Gaiman's The Graveyard Book and it's actually a fun, very well written book to read (even if the title doesn't sound like much fun). I have also been watching some debates on television because today there are elections in the Netherlands. Unlike other countries we have many political parties over here: about 20 or something! A great deal of them are very small though and there is even a Pirate Party. Not sure if it's a good thing if for the next 4 years our country is being led by a guy with a parrot on his shoulder shouting 'har har' all the time. ;)

Still busy working on the Castle Peeps patterns! I love how new and bright colours have made their way into my floss box due to this project. I do tend to use the same colours over and over again and this will absolutely influence colour choices for future embroidery projects.

  2. I'm sorry to hear you're still not feeling all that well, and boy that's a drag about your laptop. Wishing you both full health soon!

It's nice to have a project that pulls you towards new-to-you floss colors :).

  3. Hi Nicole,

Just to let you know, the Pirate Party is a serious, worldwide movement, with parties in around 40 countries. There are already 2 members in the EU parliament from Sweden and the German party got around a half a million votes in their election.

The party is dedicated to protecting freedom of speech and privacy rights and reforming copyright and patent laws.

I'm from Pirate Party Australia, so I won't aim to speak for the Dutch party, but have a look at their website and you'll see that they are worth considering.

    Regards,

    David Crafti
    President
    Pirate Party Australia

  4. Thanks Paula and Glenda for your well wishes!
Hi David, I would have send an email but I couldn't find your email address. Of course I knew the Pirate Party weren't one legged parrot carrying people. I'm pretty sure my readers also knew that. However you must agree with me that the name for your party is rather odd and (imho) doesn't bring across your message too well. My aim with this blog is to write about crafty things and because most of the readers are not Dutch I sometimes mention typical Dutch events or things. Like I wrote in the blog post we have many political parties over here (as opposed to for example the US) A lot of the smaller parties, like the Pirate Party, aim at a single group in society OR a single subject. This is something, regardless of the aims of the party, I do not support.
It looks like the Pirate Party will not take place in parliament (nor in government) for the next 4 years btw. We do however have a Party for Animals. And yes, I do know they are not represented in parliament by an animal. ;)

  5. Hi Nicole. I hope you and your laptop are feeling better soon.
A coalition government unusually just came to power here too. I have high hopes that it will lessen the fighting between parties and offer more time for them to actually govern.
Fascinating to hear about your elections and the pirates too!

  7. Sorry to hear you are finding the recovery slower than you had hoped, I am sure. Computer difficulties definitely do not help, and I hope you will have a better week coming. On a crafty note- I am hooped up and stitching happily on bunny, hedgie, and the golden apple- love it!
    Best wishes from Canada!
(I was about to write and ask- how are you? Keep us posted!)

  8. :) The Graveyard book is wonderful. I actually got it as an audio book read by Neil Gaiman himself! Such fun to listen to the book and do a bit of art or craft at the same time.

In the US there are many small parties also but the dominant parties (democrat and republican) have the most following. Many people in the US have declared themselves as independent and will vote as they see fit and not by party.

I hope you are feeling better!
