Traveling Threads

Totally ready to move on from this shading experiment to another crazy one thread only project! I think I need one or two more sessions to put some final touches to this piece and than it should be done. Today I filled in some more of the clouds in the background and added two light pink flowery things in the foreground and a pink flower too.

The back of this piece is a bit uhm..chaotic.. I'm sure some people get shivers when they see this:

But then I'd rather pay more attention to the front of the embroidery and less to the back of it. As most of this embroidery is covered with fill stitches you can't see the 'traveling' threads going from one place to another. Obviously you need to be more careful when you do an outline only embroidery. :)

  1. This is so beautiful. I am afraid I am pretty useless at hand embroidery and always admire anyone who can produce such lovely work.

  2. It's really wonderful ~ the rabbit has such a lovely expression and the flowers are so pretty!
I say ~ who cares about the back ~ it's going to get covered anyway!

  3. Yes it's the front that counts! And the front is stunning. As long as there aren't big black threads running across the back of a piece of embroidery then I don't see the problem with a few knots. Beautiful work x

  4. I LOVE that you were so honest about your work. I've been told the back of your work has to be as beautiful as the front. Hogwash! I totally agree with you! The front of our work is much more important. It's comforting to me to see this! Thanks for sharing....

  5. Love the back of the work. So much texture. It looks kind of wind swept. I know many people think I'm wrong, but I nearly always prefer the wrong side of the work. Its like looking deep in to the inner workings of the embroidery.

  6. I guess it doesn't look that bad if you look at it at like that! I think you can tell from my 'wrong side' that I take my needle and thread all over the embroidery wherever I feel I need to add a few stitches. I rarely complete whole sections with fill stitching in one go (except for some of the flowers). :)

  7. ah lovely, the rabbit looks very wistful staring into the distance. Contemplating where his next carrot is coming from maybe? ;-)
