Birthday Giveaway!

I read that it's a good Hobbit custom to give away presents on your birthday.* Not that I'm a Hobbit, but the idea is lovely so I put together some goodies that you will hopefully like: a Princess & the Pea Iron on Embroidery Pattern, a big bar of yummy Dutch Tony Chocolonely Marshmallow/Pecan chocolate (and it's Fair Trade too so you don't have to feel guilty about eating it) and some floss. And remember: don't eat chocolate and then lick your floss, it's not a good idea.

Anyway, one of the presents I received today was a new e-reader (a Kobo Aura) and I would love to hear your book recommendations in the comments! At the moment I'm reading Haruki Murakami's Kafka on the Shore which I really like so far.

So if you want to get the pattern, floss and chocolate in your mail box then please leave a comment before noon (Amsterdam time), 10th of April 2015   giveaway is closed, thank you for entering. winner will be announced shortly. and let me know your book recommendation! This give away is open to anyone, anywhere but please bear in mind that there must be some way for me to contact you if you are the lucky winner so please leave a trail to your blog, twitter, IG or an e-mail address.

Good luck everyone!

  1. My recommendation would have to be The Paris Wife. It has been my go to recommendation for the last couple of years and never disappoints. It's a wonderful insight into Paris in the 20s and the Lost Generation particularly Hemingway and Fitzgerald. You'll fall in love with Hadley. I would also recommend following it up with watching Midnight in Paris. Twitter: @emma_jayne Instagram: emmajayne Blog: emiliahearts.co.uk

  8. What a wonderful giveaway & very generous of you.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Kite Runners about 2 little boys growing in the Far East. That's not usually my cup of tea, but it was so family-oriented, I can't forget it.

  11. Happy birthday! I would love to be entered. I just found your blog a few weeks ago and I'm in awe of your work. For the e-reader, I'd suggest Tana French's Dublin Murder Squad series, or anything by Liane Moriarty or Kate Atkinson. I also like lighter reading like Jen Lancaster's memoirs. Thank you for the chance to win your lovely giveaway. :)

  12. Hope you are having a wonderful happy birthday. If you haven't read it and you read only one book this year, read "the goldfinch" by Donna Tartt. I loved it so much I have read it twice in less than a year. Stunning.

  16. Happy birthday! I love reading book recommendations. I am currently reading The Girl on the Train. I was a bit unsure about it at the start but I stayed up way too late reading "just one more chapter" so I guess that is a good recommendation. Also Life After Life by Kate Atkinson was a really good read. Different from anything else I've read and very beautifully written. Enjoy your day!

  20. Have a wonderful birthday! If you like mysteries, try "Still Life" by Louise Penny. It is the first in her Inspector Gamache series (it does help to read them in order). Not action-packed, but quiet and intense. Very intriguing, well-developed characters. Many thanks for sharing treats on your birthday!

  22. I just read the Hangman's Daughter by Oliver Potzsch ~ if you like a little bit of darkness in a book, it was good and an interesting read about the middle ages and the things that were happening then. A little bit of fantasy and history in one book!
And, The Prisoner of Heaven by Carlos Ruiz Zafon ~ about a man in prison who escapes and his life after ~ not a true story, but very heartwarming!

I think it is beautifully written, and the copy I have has lovely illustrations, which I love in a book. Happy Birthday!

  33. Happy Birthday lovely!
    I recommend:
Omens/Visions by Kelley Armstrong (there is a third one coming soon) a little bit saucy, dark and mysterious.
The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare (a prequel to The Mortal Instruments) but there is a lot of poetry and other quoted works.
The Wee Free Men series by Terry Pratchet this is such a funny book series full of witches and fairies and not the pretty kind, the kind that say CRIVENS! Also gets a bit more serious as it goes on. I think Luna would love this (maybe something you can read together).

  34. I love the idea of a birthday give, and many happy birthday wishes to YOU!

I love non-fiction food and travel writing -- so Julia Child's "My life in France" was a delight. Bill Bryson's books are all fun too. Sarah Allen Addison's "Garden Spells" is a magical fictional tale. I've enjoyed all her books.
